Professor at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Information Sciences and Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, she is former Dean of the School of Information Sciences. She has been Executive Director, U.S. Commission on Libraries and Information Sciences and the National Federation of Abstracting and Index Services, London, England. She received the Distinguished Service Award from the Pennsylvania Library Association.
